Jointly promote "Zhejiang Food Chain" to become the first promotion and application project of the global QR code migration plan.

At the signing ceremony, the "Joint Statement on the Global QR Code Migration Plan" was signed, and the "Zhejiang Food Chain" QR code was scanned with a mobile phone to launch the first application project of the Global QR Code Migration Plan.

It is reported that the migration plan will be carried out in 3 stages - by 2022, 50% of the food-producing enterprises will be assigned 50% product entities; in 2023, 80% of the food-producing enterprises will be assigned entity codes for all varieties.

In 2025, the transition of commodity codes in the food industry in Zhejiang Province from one-dimensional barcodes to two-dimensional codes will be basically realized, and the transformation of the whole chain of use, two-dimensional code warehousing and logistics storage, reading and settlement functions will be completed, and the application of two-dimensional codes of commodities will be gradually promoted. In addition to food, other fast-moving consumer goods fields will build Zhejiang into a GM2D global demonstration and pilot area.

According to Zhejiang Daily, at present, one-dimensional barcodes are commonly used around the world. However, because the one-dimensional barcode only expresses information in one direction (usually the horizontal direction), there are disadvantages such as small data capacity, low space utilization, and cannot be read after being damaged.

In contrast, two-dimensional codes can store information in both horizontal and vertical directions, which not only stores a large amount of data, but also has high confidentiality. Even if it is damaged by 50%, the complete information can still be read .

At the end of 2020, the International Article Numbering Organization proposed the GM2D global initiative, hoping to realize the transition from one-dimensional barcodes to two-dimensional barcodes on a global scale by 2027.
